With the Secondary Computer Science PGCE, we are training teachers who can equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We want passionate teachers who can bring this exciting subject to life.
Computing education in schools is no longer about being learning how to operate software to effectively present information. The ability to problem solve using a variety of powerful modelling techniques is an important skill that must be practised and mastered.
These transferrable skills can help pupils in numerous subjects and disciplines ensuring they are not just consumers of technology but creators as well. This course has strong links with the British Computer Society (BCS) who are working with the Department of Education to develop the next generation of computing teachers.
The School of Education works in conjunction with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and The Built Environment as a Computing at School (CAS) Regional Centre. We are leaders in developing computer science teaching across the West Midlands supporting both new and established practitioners learn how best to teach this wonderful subject. Trainees on this course will be immersed in this culture of development and will help to shape the subject for years to come.
