Course content

This full-time, one year PGCE course prepares you to teach children in the 5 to 11 age range as a mathematics specialist primary teacher. It is a very practical course with around two thirds of the time spent in schools, mostly working with teachers and pupils, and around one third spent on your own study with training sessions in the University or locally to your school.

The role of the specialist mathematics teacher in primary schools is an important part of the drive to raise standards in mathematics. In addition to the specialist training, this PGCE also provides a general primary training so that the specialist teacher can also work across other areas of the curriculum.
