Entry requirements

We would normally expect you to have an Honours degree at Upper Second Class (2.1) and/or an appropriate masters degree. Some supervisors may ask you for additional entry requirements such as relevant work experience, evidence of written work, or previous study of a particular subject. Entry requirements may vary so it is important to discuss your application in principle before submitting a formal application.

Course content

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is awarded to a candidate who, having critically investigated and evaluated an approved topic and demonstrated an understanding of research methods appropriate to the chosen field, has presented and defended a thesis and/or practical element, by viva voce, to the satisfaction of the examiners. Candidates may register to study for an MPhil on a full-time or part-time basis.

English language requirements for this course are IELTS (Academic) 6.5 with minimum 5.5 in each component or equivalent.

Part-time students: You will be charged a proportion of the full-time fee according to how much you study during the year.
