We would normally expect you to have an Honours degree at Upper Second Class (2.1) and/or an appropriate masters degree. Some supervisors may ask you for additional entry requirements such as relevant work experience, evidence of written work, or previous study of a particular subject. Entry requirements may vary so it is important to discuss your application in principle before submitting a formal application.
Months of entry
January, September, April
This new Master's by Research (MRes) course allows you to embark upon a research degree by undertaking a research project at Masters’ level which will be assessed via submission of a thesis and a viva voce.
It contains no formally assessed taught component although you will be expected to fully engage with the Postgraduate Researcher Development Framework, which includes research methodology training. The MRes may also be attractive to individuals who are working in higher education or in the public or private sector, wishing to undertake research and development activities. Your MRes project will be developed in collaboration with our experienced academic members of University staff, who will provide you with specialist knowledge and supervisory input, whilst you gain access to BU’s vast technical and information resources. The MRes is intended to provide research and professional development training in any BU subject discipline area and is particularly aimed at those who would like to have more comprehensive training in original research and/or have the desire to go on to do doctoral studies.
