Brunel University London, founded in 1966, is a leading technology university renowned for its education and research, as well as its spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The 2024 QS World University Rankings places Brunel 343rd globally and 40th in the UK. In terms of ‘international outlook’, the University is ranked 4th in the world and 1st in the UK (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024).

Research forms the foundation of its teaching. Brunel is rated 74th globally for research impact (Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2023) and its research helps the United Nations work towards its Sustainable Development Goals. The results of REF 2021 confirm Brunel’s position as a top 40 UK research intensive university.

Future career prospects

Brunel University London is a career-oriented institution, which provides a wide range of services through its Professional Development Centre. The Centre offers personalised career guidance including job seeking, CV writing and interview training, as well as organising networking events and career workshops throughout the year where postgraduate students can meet with recruiters and professional representatives.

A growing number of postgraduate courses now offer placement opportunities, giving students important hands-on industry experience that is directly relevant to their studies. Brunel graduates have gone on to become leaders at major companies including Barclays, Centrica and JP Morgan. Others have become judges, MPs and successful entrepreneurs. Brunel alumni also include many household names in the arts and media industries, alongside Olympic, Paralympic, World and Commonwealth champions in a range of sports.

English language support

For students whose level of English does not meet the entry requirements for their course, they can attend an English language course at the Brunel Language Centre. The centre supports students before and during their studies. The English language requirements differ according to specific courses.

To help students meet their entry requirements, Brunel runs pre-sessional English courses lasting from 6–50 weeks. For more information (including start dates for pre-sessional English, fees and how to apply), students can visit the Brunel Language Centre.

The University also offers free support with academic English to all students whose first language is not English.

Facilities and support arrangements

Brunel has world-class teaching and learning facilities including state-of-the-art laboratories, clinical practice rooms, drama and performance studios, a visual effect studio / green room and impressive sports facilities including an indoor athletics centre.

Postgraduate students have a dedicated study area in the library which is usually open 24/7 during term-time.

Support is available for mental health issues, faith and religion, as well as for students with disabilities. Brunel’s campus and facilities are recognised as some of the best in the country for disabled students.

Fees, funding and costs

The University offers a huge range of scholarships, bursaries and discounts to newly enrolled students. To be considered for a scholarship, students will need to hold an offer to a Brunel course. Some of the scholarships require an application to be submitted. Brunel bursaries are based on under-represented criteria and most bursaries do not require an application.

A new award - the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Award 2024 has been introduced, offering a £5,000 fee reduction for self-funded international students across Brunel’s postgraduate taught courses.

Location

Brunel is based in west London without the stress and expense of being in central London. Students are just a tube ride away from the city and can also enjoy the beautiful English countryside near to Brunel. The University is easy to reach by bus, rail or road and is just a short walk from Uxbridge Underground Station. It is 15 minutes from Heathrow by car. Proximity to central London offers great opportunities for work placements and careers.

Brunel is one of the safest universities in the UK and its security team patrols the campus 24/7 to ensure students’ safety.

Accommodation

Brunel guarantees accommodation on campus for all new students who meet their course conditions and apply for a room by the end of August 2024. For courses starting in January 2025, applications for a room on campus will be prioritised during the following months.

For students who prefer to live off campus, there’s a wide choice of housing near to Brunel, with good bus routes to the campus

Culture

As a single-site campus university, everything that students need is within a 10-minute walk, including a small supermarket, bars, cafés, and a medical centre.

Socialising on campus couldn’t be easier with a choice of food outlets, coffee shops, student bar Loco’s and The Venue nightclub.

Brunel Social at The Junction offers a huge range of food concepts including pan-Asian, sub-Asian, burgers and wings, freshly prepared burritos and pizzas, as well as spicy chicken from Hola Pollo. There is even a Subway on campus.

There are around 140 clubs and societies on offer from the Arts and Crafts Society to a range of cultural societies and subject-specific groups, where students can socialise with course mates.

The campus benefits from a thriving arts and culture scene and students are encouraged to develop creative skills themselves.

How to apply

Students should find the course they are interested in using the Course Finder. There will be an 'Apply' button on the right-hand side of the page if the course is currently open for applications.
Students are recommended to apply as soon as possible as courses in high demand often reach capacity and may need to close early or stop recruiting.

For courses beginning September 2024, it is recommended to apply by 22 July 2024.
For courses beginning January 2025, it is recommended to apply by 11 November 2024.
