The course has been carefully designed with the input of a variety of organisations from the tourism and events industry and provides you with the opportunity to gain both comprehensive conceptual knowledge and an indispensable practical understanding of the key subject areas.

Why study MSc Event and Tourism Management

As an events and tourism management student, you will be immersed in the world of events production and tourism planning, including topics such as sustainable event and tourism design, light festivals and technology, entrepreneurship and consultancy, creative placemaking and experiential marketing. These industries are worth billions to the economies of different countries and continue to evolve in new directions. If you wish to plan weddings, run music festivals or start a tourism trail business, then this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need.

Your core modules will provide an overall foundation for management in international hospitality and one optional module offers you the chance to study a bespoke area of management. Employability skills and attributes are embedded into each module to develop your professional skills and talents.

You will have the opportunity to study and work directly with members of the Kent community and contribute to the development of this dynamic and enterprising region, for example by visiting the destinations and listening to guest speakers from local events companies, who run festivals or wedding planners, to understand how local employers develop globally popular products.

Our stunning campus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and we look after it with care. It has wonderfully maintained open spaces and gardens to stroll in and meet with friends. It is situated in the heart of the city and everything you need for a convenient student life is within close walking distance. The rich heritage means that this is also an exciting and popular tourist hotspot and as a result, the local visitor attractions, venues and festivals are well-developed, giving you plenty of opportunities to experience different events and tourism management approaches. With three Universities in Canterbury there is also a thriving student lifestyle.
