Entry requirements

A good honours degree in an appropriate Art and Design strand (2:2 or above), English Language and Maths at GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent for Secondary (11-18), and to have passed the government's skills test in literacy and numeracy. In addition to the academic requirements, you should also have a recommended period of at least ten days school experience in the year prior to application, preferably in a UK state school, observing the age group and curriculum relevant to the PGCE course for which an application is being made.

Course content

The 11-18 in Art and Design is a rigorous and imaginative, innovative and intensive nine month programme preparing graduates for the challenges and rewards of teaching Art and Design within the secondary sector in the artist/teacher model. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools.

The course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway (and towards London), where you spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching across two contrasting placements.
