Entry requirements

A good honours degree (2:2 or above) with a minimum of 50% of the degree in the relevant language(s). In exceptional circumstances the university will consider applicants who hold an unrelated degree who can demonstrate an appropriate level of spoken and written fluency both in their teaching languages and in English. English and Maths at GCSE (grade C or above) or equivalent for Secondary (11-18), and to have passed the government's skills tests in literacy and numeracy. In addition to the academic requirements, you should also have a recommended period of at least ten days school experience in the year prior to application, preferably in a UK state school, observing the age group and curriculum relevant to the PGCE course for which an application is being made.

Course content

The 11-18 PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) is an innovative and intensive nine month programme preparing graduates for the demands of teaching the 11-18 age range in the secondary sector. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools on completion of the programme. The course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where you will spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in two different schools.
