Entry requirements

The University requires all applicants for PGCE programmes to demonstrate that they meet the national entry requirements, as set out by the Department for Education. One of these requirements is that the applicant has achieved a standard equivalent to a grade C in the GCSE examinations in English, mathematics and science. Applicants must possess a relevant subject degree (2:2 Hons min.) or equivalent qualification by the time the programme starts. Applicants with a non-relevant degree but who are fluent up to degree standard will also be considered. Applicants are also require dto have gained a minimum of ten days recent state primary and secondary school experience (prio to applying) and to have passed the skills tests in literacy and numeracy.

Course content

The 7-14 PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) is an innovative and intensive nine month programme preparing graduates for the demands of teaching. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools on completion of the programme. The course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where you will spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in two different schools.
