Entry requirements

A good honours degree (2:2 or above) in Leisure and Tourism, Travel and Tourism, Sport and Recreation or Tourism Management or related areas. In some exceptional cases, an unrelated degree is acceptable if you have a significant employment background. English and Maths at GCSE (grade C or above) or equivalent for Secondary (14-19). To have passed the government's skills tests in literacy and numeracy. In addition to the academic requirements, you should also have a recommended period of at least ten days school experience in the year prior to application, preferably in a UK state school, observing the age group and curriculum relevant to the PGCE course for which an application is being made.

Course content

The 14-19 PGCE in Leisure and Tourism/Sport is a nine month innovative and intensive programme preparing graduates for the demands of teaching the 14-19 age range in the secondary and Lifelong Learning sectors. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools. The programme is also designed to provide a strong foundation for working in the Lifelong Learning sector, especially FE, with recommendations for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
