Course content

Whether you’re from a traditional art background and wish to transition to digital or you are a beginner who wants to learn the foundations and use them in the digital medium, this course has you covered. From principles and theories to tools and techniques, this is your guide to digital creativity.

The Digital Art Diploma Course looks at what art is and the ways it is expressed. It dives into art theory (with a focus on a few subgenres including formalism, imitational, and emotionalism), and the creative process, with an exploration of the psychology behind creativity and how to portray this in your digital art. We’ll also guide you through the software you can use to make digital art and what to consider when choosing a drawing tablet.

We’ll explore the elements of art including colour, space, form, value, and texture, the eight principles of art, including emphasis, movement, proportion, and contrast, and colour theory, including colour vocabulary and models, and the different primaries.

The Digital Art Diploma Course will also walk you through digital techniques for drawing figures, landscapes, and still life drawing. You'll be guided in studying the human body and proportions, sketching on location and drawing landscapes, and how to use composition, observe objects, and drawing what you see.

By studying this course, you will:

  • Gain a greater understanding of what art is, art theories, and the creative process
  • Become familiar with the tools used to make digital art
  • Improve your knowledge of the elements and principles of art and colour theory
  • Practice digital techniques for drawing figures, landscapes, and still life drawings
