Course content

Take the Native American Studies Diploma Course and discover the varying cultures, traditions, spiritual beliefs, and history of the Native Americans.

The Native American Studies Diploma Course introduces you to more true legends: Geronimo of the Apache Nation and Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse of the Sioux Nation.

The course concludes with an exploration of the tragedy at Wounded Knee - one of the final showdowns between Native Americans and the dominant white settlers - and the events that surrounded and led up to it.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand how Native American people are defined
  • Know the many different tribes that lived across North America
  • Have a broad overview of shared elements within Native American spirituality, including Animism, Totemism, and Vision Quests
  • Be aware of the importance of dance to Native American religion
  • Comprehend the depth of influence that colonisation had on Native American culture
  • Have a deeper knowledge of individuals who were key to Native American and American history, including Hiawatha, Squanto, Pocahontas, and Sacagawea
  • Know the histories of some of the great Native American leaders and warriors including Geronimo, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse
  • Understand what Native American women were like during the times of colonisation
  • Be familiar with a few lesser-known Native American heroes and heroines

The Native American Studies Diploma Course will take you up to 150 hours to complete, working from home. There is no time limit for completing this course, it can be studied in your own time at your own pace. This is a Level 3 course and will give you 150 CPD (Continued Professional Development) points. Upon completion of your course assessments, you receive 2 certificates. A certificate from the Centre of Excellence and a CPD certificate displaying the number of CPD points earned from the course. Upon successful completion of this course, learners can also receive a certificate of achievement from Quality Licence Scheme and a Learner Unit Summary, which lists the details of all the units the learner has completed as part of the course. (This certificate is optional and costs an additional £15). The Quality Licence Scheme is a leading national Awarding Organisation. It has a long-established reputation for developing and awarding high-quality vocational qualifications across a wide range of industries. This course has been endorsed under the Quality Licence Scheme.
