We’re CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. We’re proud to be the largest and most influential body of management accountants in the world.

As part of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA & CIMA), we’re home to over 650,000 students and members spread across 179 countries and territories around the globe.

You’ll find CIMA members in all kinds of organisations: big and small, public and private. There’s no one industry or role that management accountants work in. In fact, 225,000 organisations worldwide employ someone with the CIMA Qualification.

Our qualifications

Anyone can study with CIMA to get Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) status. The level you start at depends on your prior qualifications.

CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting (Cert BA)

Our foundation level, ideal if you’ve not got already got an accounting-related degree or qualification. Teaching core skills beyond simple accounting, the syllabus is the perfect stepping-stone towards a career in business and finance. A qualification in its own right, the Cert BA is also an entry route into the CIMA Professional Qualification.

On average, students take one year to complete the Cert BA.

CIMA Professional Qualification

Already got a degree in accounting, management, business or finance? You could jump straight into studying the CIMA Professional Qualification to become a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Recognised all over the world, the CIMA Professional Qualification focuses on employability, offering a syllabus that is truly competency based. You’ll develop the technical and leadership skills employers are really looking for, showing them that you not only have the knowledge, but also the competencies and skills of a CGMA.

On average, students take three years to complete the CIMA Professional Qualification.

If you’ve already completed a relevant degree, you could be entitled to exemptions from some CIMA exams – allowing you to qualify as a CGMA sooner than you think. CIMA is the only accounting body in the world who won’t charge you for exemptions.


You can complete the CIMA Professional Qualification and gain CGMA status as part of an apprenticeship. Fully funded by your employer, you’ll earn a salary at the same time.

Flexible study

It’s up to you how you study with CIMA. Choose from the options below or do a combination.

Tuition provider courses

If you like to learn with others, appreciate the support of having a tutor on-hand and benefit from the structure of formal study, look at signing up with a tuition provider. You’ll find online-only courses, classroom, and a mixture of both.

Distance learning

Want to study in your own time, on your own terms? Choose when and where you study with – the only online learning resource reviewed and approved by CIMA, delivered in partnership with Kaplan.

Independent study

Study by yourself with official CIMA endorsed study texts, exam practice kits and revision cards. Your only cost will be the texts, materials and exam fees.


Most of our students have their CIMA qualification funded or part-funded by their employers.


All new students pay a one-off registration fee, which also covers your first year’s subscription. For most students, registration costs £85.

Annual Subscription

Your first year’s subscription is included in your registration fee. After that, it’s £123 for most students.


You’ll need to pay for each exam you sit as part of the CIMA Professional Qualification. Exam fees are pay-as-you-go — you don’t need to pay them all up front.
