Entry requirements

Applicants for this course should hold a first or upper second class degree in a social science discipline or the equivalent from an international institution. Applicants with equivalent professional qualifications or occupational experience will also be considered.

Course content

City’s MSc in Research Methods offers theoretical and practical education in research methods and analysis for the social sciences. It is designed to equip you with an understanding and appreciation of qualitative and quantitative research methods over a range of disciplines and with practical skills in collecting and analysing empirical data. There is a strong emphasis on communicating research findings effectively and developing a critical appreciation of the impact of social research within and beyond academia.

The programme is offered by the School of Arts & Social Sciences, whose staff cover a diverse range of substantive research interests. Staff are experts in a plethora of methodologies, from personal interviewing to large-scale survey research. Teaching is research-led, so you will be introduced to the latest thinking on given research topics and exposed to first-hand insights on the challenges of conducting empirical research.
