Entry requirements

To commence the full-time MBA programme applicants must:

  • Be an honours graduate of any relevant discipline (minimum 2:2 or higher), obtained from a recognised university/HE institution, or hold an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Engineering and Business Faculties in a business related area
  • Have a minimum of two years post-degree full-time relevant work experience in a management/administrative/ professional capacity.
However, entry qualifications are flexible and applications will also be considered on an individual basis. Applications are welcomed from candidates with an equivalent qualification, from mature candidates and from those with a lower qualification but relevant industrial experience. Students who do not fit with the above entry requirements can gain entry but their degrees and experience will be assessed for appropriate content by the MBA Course Director.

Course content


The MBA in Supply Chain Management is designed to help you prepare for senior supply chain management roles that could lead to job opportunities in strategic procurement, supply chain management, logistics, commercial management, consultancy and associated areas. These can be in manufacturing, service, retail, government, non-government or other similar organisations.


The MBA is seen by many as an essential passport to success in senior management.

In a world where commercial success relies on informed strategic decision making and the best use of outsourced supplier assets, supply chain managers need to maximise value and deliver competitive products and services to customers.

Companies therefore need supply chain professionals capable of developing diverse, bespoke and often novel supply chain solutions to help them identify and maintain competitive advantage.

The MBA in Supply Chain Management is an exciting course which explores the different ways that SCM can significantly contribute to wealth creation, competitiveness, and to the advancement of society in the 21st century.

The individual project gives you the opportunity to do in depth research in your preferred area of supply chain management alongside an experienced academic supervisor who will guide and advise you.

You will study Global Professional Development - Consultancy, an important new 10-credit module developed in partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Upon successful completion of this module you will also gain:

  • an L7 Certificate in Strategic Leadership and Management
  • an L7 Award in Professional Consulting.
  • Affiliate Membership of CMI during your period of study. This will give you access to a whole host of benefits including access to:
  • online and offline networking events;
  • CMI’s online resource portal LeadershipDirect which contains thousands of resources including videos, checklists, e-learning modules, full text journals and e-books to support you in your studies;
  • CMI’s online job finder service;
  • an online mentoring service where you can connect and learn from other leaders.


You will experience the innovative use of “Lectorials” which are a combination of lectures/workshops/seminars. A particular emphasis is on the use of scenarios, activity led learning and games to re-enforce concepts and application. Our teaching is fully interactive with the use of a virtual learning environments and multimedia tools.

Guest speakers, case studies and web materials are used when appropriate to ensure that the content of the MBA programme remains valid and contemporaneous, drawing on relevant expertise from within the course team. Research activity and interests, relevant scholarly and consultancy activities will be used to inform the module content

We aim to support the development and enhancement of your managerial, analytical, critical communication and presentation skills, developing your understanding of both the functional nature of business and the holistic nature of management. You’ll explore contemporary business issues, such as ethics and the need to manage relationships across different cultures to ensure successful global trade.

A distinctive feature of the course is the practical approach adopted in delivering the carefully selected mix of supply chain and general management topics, combined with the extensive use of Activity Led Learning. The course is designed to:

  • Support development of a sound knowledge of business and supply chain strategies and operations
  • Help enhance your strategic, managerial and supply chain capabilities
  • Demonstrate the impact that strategic supply chain management can have on the competitiveness and profitability of a business
  • Show how effective supply chain management can significantly increase return on capital employed, develop new profitable trading opportunities and drive ethical and environmentally sustainable practices
  • Enable you to solve real-life management problems working both individually and in teams to help you develop transferrable skills and to ensure you are industry ready.


Achievement of learning outcomes in the majority of taught modules is assessed by a combination of team based and individual coursework. The learning outcomes of modules, assignments and projects will be clearly stated in advance and your work will be marked according to how well you achieve these learning outcomes. You need to achieve above 40% to pass.

A variety of assessment methods includes: examinations, in-class tests, practical assessments, individual or group presentations, written reports, portfolio, log books and your dissertation. An estimated percentage breakdown of your final grade assessment is as follows:

  • Reports 30%
  • Practical coursework 30%
  • Presentations 40%

Award of an MSc requires successful completion of all modules.
