Course content

The MA or PgDip Sixth Form Education, designed in conjunction with managers, teaching staff and students of Sixth Form Colleges in the UK, aim to meet the special requirements of those involved in teaching, learning, pastoral support and leadership in Sixth Forms. We are committed to creating a tailor-made, responsive professional development opportunity that recognises the particularities of working with 16-19-year-old learners during a significant period of transition in their lives.

The courses are intended as continuing professional and academic development for teaching staff in Sixth Forms. They are also suitable for other sixth form staff, such as pastoral, course or subject specialism leadership and for staff with significant sixth form responsibility in other settings, such as schools and academies.

The first year of the programme focuses on understanding Sixth Form learners as the basis for excellent, reflexive teaching and learning practice. The research strand of the course is also established from the outset so that MA students can start work on their independent action research project with sufficient time to complete it in sufficient depth over the two years of the course.
