Course content

This programme effectively combines DMU’s long running Legal Practice (LPC) and Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) Courses, preparing you for the SQE assessments which will be taken externally at a central provider appointed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Students commencing UG legal studies after 2020 will have no option but to undertake the SQE if they wish to qualify as solicitors. The GDL will not be recognised as a route into becoming a solicitor after 2021.

The programme enables you as a non-law graduate to study the main areas of law (which law graduates would have covered during their UG degree and which previously a GDL would have covered) before you are taught to practically apply this theoretical legal knowledge.

Assessments will consist of two hour closed book examinations containing SQE type questions.

The programme will be offered on a FT (one year) and PT (two years) basis with an exit point at PG Dip level.
