A minimum of an honours bachelor degree at second class honours, lower division (2.2) in an accredited engineering degree or any qualification deemed by the DIT to be equivalent.

Signal processing techniques are utilised in a wide variety of electronic devices and software applications; from mobile phones and heart monitors to gaming systems and forensic analysis applications. This programme develops the practical skills required to analyse and manipulate biomedical, audio and image signals.
These skills provide opportunities to develop innovative solutions in Irelands Medical Devices, Digital Content and Systems Design industries.
The programme introduces the fundamentals of digital signal processing (DSP) theory through practical application to audio/image signals in addition to biomedical signals such as heart signals (ECG) and brainwaves (EEG). Further insight is gained by implementing signal processing algorithms on industry standard DSP hardware platforms.
Once the signal processing techniques are mastered they can be applied to a range of disciplines such as telecommunications, manufacturing, sustainable energy systems, biomedical engineering and digital media.
Specialised option modules are offered in both Biomedical Signal Processing and Advanced Audio/Image Processing which draw upon the Institute's extensive research expertise in these domains.
The programme consists of 12 taught modules and a project. Modules are delivered through a mixture of lecture, assignments and laboratory work, e-learning and problem based learning by academics and industrial experts.
