Entry requirements

For a PhD and MLitt, we normally require a 2:1 in a first degree and a MA in a relevant subject; for the MA by Thesis, we require a 2:1 in a relevant first degree

Course content

The PhD is central to our postgraduate research programme. It requires three years of full-time study, and is assessed by a thesis of up to 100,000 words. We also offer shorter research programmes for the degree of MA by Thesis (one year of full-time study) or MLitt (two years of full-time study).

Greek and Roman Culture; History and Historiography; Greek Theatre and its Reception; Greek and Roman Epic; Latin Elegy; Literary and Cultural Theory; Ancient Rhetoric and Poetics; Ethnicity, Class and Gender in Antiquity; Classical, Hellenistic, and post-Hellenistic Philosophy.

Information for international students

English language requirements include an IELTS of 7.0 or equivalent (with 6.5 in the written section).
