Entry requirements

Entry requirements for the MMus by composition include an upper second class degree in Music or a relevant area of study; entry requirements for the PhD by composition include a Masters degree in a relevant area of study. If you do not have this you may be admitted to a Masters programme in the first instance, with the possibility of upgrading to full PhD status for the second and third year of the programme.

Course content

The PhD by composition is assessed by a composition portfolio of 90 minutes duration with a 20,000 word commentary. The MMus by composition is assessed by a composition portfolio of 60 minutes duration with a 12,000 word commentary and offers potential progression to PhD.

Information for international students

English language requirements include an IELTS of 7.0 with no element below 6.5.
