Entry requirements

You would normally have as a minimum, a 2:1 honours degree in a biological discipline. If you wish to complete a field-based project you must have a full driving licence. If you do not meet the entry criteria but believe you can provide evidence of experience in lieu of this, please contact the programme leader. For example, you may be a graduate with a 2:2 honours degree in Biology but with subsequent experience working within a research environment. As part of the selection process, you will need to produce a short research proposal and attend an interview.

Course content

The MRes Biology has been designed for recent Biology graduates who wish to pursue a research career in industry or academia, as well for those who are already working within research. The programme encourages applications from high quality and motivated biology graduates who have a keen interest in developing their knowledge, expertise and research skills.

The combination of taught modules on research practice and the development of a high impact research project will equip you with an essential foundation for a successful career in academic and/or industrial research within your chosen field. The course also provides ideal preparation to progress your research to PhD level.

Information for international students

Overseas applicants will be considered on an individual basis and will be expected to demonstrate IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
