Entry requirements

You should have a degree equivalent to UK first-class or second-class honours (2:2 or above) in a relevant subject. Relevant professional qualifications and/or appropriate work experience will also be considered. This will allow for the recruitment of current police officers, police staff and staff from other law enforcement agencies with significant related work experience. For applicants who don’t have a second-class honours degree, an interview will usually form part of the selection process.

Providing a practical and theoretical approach to the ever-increasing complexities of strategic leadership, this taught Masters degree provides a valuable and highly rewarding learning experience. Focusing on the management and command of critical and major incidents, it is ideal for emergency service workers and members of law enforcement agencies. It is also suitable for recent graduates seeking a career in these areas, as well as staff working in middle or senior leadership positions for government and public sector agencies, both in the UK and overseas. Learning the practical and theoretical skills and techniques needed to identify, manage and lead responses to serious and critical incidents, you will discover the challenges, complexities, legal requirements and responsibilities of strategic leadership in the context of the emergency services and law enforcement. This will include how to manage competing operational and organisational demands and the wider strategic implications of critical and major incident management. Designed and delivered by former senior professional police officers, other police staff and academic experts in critical incident leadership and emergency services management, the course uses roleplay and problem-solving exercises to introduce real-life scenarios. Learning is underpinned by the development of advanced research skills, as well as key transferable skills to enhance your employability.
