Entry requirements

We are flexible on entry requirements for our courses but to give you a general idea for the Postgraduate it is as follows:

You can apply if you one of the following:

  • General Bachelors Degree
  • A relevant higher BTEC National Diploma
  • An International Baccalaureate (equivalent to NQF Level 3 or above

If you don't have any of the above qualifications you should be either

  • Already working in the event or marketing industry with at least one year's relevant industry experience
  • Have at least two years alternative professional experience within a business environment

Course content

A part time, six-month course with optional additional three month work placement, the Postgraduate Diploma Course in Event Management Level 7 qualification endorsed by The Chartered Institute of Marketing blends an academic qualification with vocational skills and practical experience to fast track students into the workplace.

Our 2021 courses will be a blend of two days of classes in London each month with virtual real time lectures & online learning to allow our students to learn from anywhere and continue working while they study.

STUDY MODULES

The course combines industry insight with in-depth skill-based learning across all sectors of event management including weddings, festivals, sports, corporate, charity, fashion, private, exhibitions.

Lectures include project management, creativity, planning, digital marketing, sales, health & safety, budgeting, event tech, production, PR, presentation skills, creativity, leadership and risk management.

PROJECTS

The Postgraduate course includes three projects answering live briefs from real life clients - previous clients include adidas, Team GB and Jamie's Farm. The final project is to create a real live event to raise money for The Event Academy's chosen charity - Teenage Cancer Trust. To date The Event Academy students have raised over £125,000 for the charity and been recognised as a major donor.

Our students create virtual live events and in previous courses, The Event Academy has invited top agencies to attend to see the students in action. One of the project teams in 2020 was subsquently invited to recreate their event for Top 5 Agency - First/Clive for their teams allowing the students to showcase themselves.

SITE VISITS

A key part of the course is site visits to premium venues and leading event agencies. This allows students to understand event management from a more practical perspective as well as creating valuable contacts within the industry. Visits have been to Tobacco Dock, Spencer House and WRG. Site visits will continue and be virtual if necessary.

GUEST SPEAKERS & LECTURERS

As part of each course, The Event Academy invites guest speakers and lecturers from the industry. Previous lecturers include ex Head of Weddings at The Savoy Hotel and guest speakers included Director of Show Design & Production for Walt Disney.

SOFT SKILLS

Our Postgraduate begins with a C-Me personality profile which helps students to understand their strengths & how best to maximise them.The course will also cover CV structure and interview techniques that help to build confidence to make the transfer into the second part of the course – the work placement more successful.

Each student will spend time with the Event Academy team to ensure that their placements match their skill set, interest and ambitions. Student placements have been at Netjets, Virgin Sport, Mama Festivals, The Department, Bridelux, Caterham & Co & Clarion Events.

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN

During the course, each student will have access to the Jobs, Internships & Volunteering portal. Here you will find posts of volunteering roles that you can apply for to boost your CV, gain experience and contacts within the industry.

In addition, students can now also get paid work in events roles with Host Staffing working at events including Grand Prix and Wimbledon or at venues like Alexandra Palace. Students who are on our courses will be priorised for management roles.

WEBINARS

Every month, we host webinars with industry guest speakers on a variety of topics. As a student you will have priority invitations to these webinars plus you will be able to access the library of webinars stretching back over the years to broaden your knowledge.

ALUMNI

Invaluable connections made on the course with numerous guest industry lecturers, visiting experts and our alumni network of over 2,000 graduates in the industry provides students with a career network. The Event Academy also hosts regular networking events for alumni - previous speakers have included Lego, Secret Cinema & The Department agency.

Information for international students

All of The Event Academy courses are endorsed by The Chartered Institute of Marketing – also known as CIM. We are proud to say that we are the ONLY Event Management course that has passed the rigorous testing to gain this status. The CIM is a global organisation with members all over the world and their qualifications are widely recognised as industry leading. If you are looking for the next step in your career or making a change to start working in the events industry – then this is the course for you.

All courses are conducted in English so it’s important that you are able to read, write and speak English. If English is not your first language, we will ask you to show you can communicate verbally and in your written work. We want to ensure that you have the best quality experience and gain the highest qualification possible.

The Event Academy is based in London and this course will be taught two days a week for three months (evyer Monday & Tuesday). You will be required to be in a classroom in London for two days of every month and all other days are taught virtually so you can choose to study the from anywhere that is accessible to London. The work placements will be based in the UK and it will be up to you to organise and pay for your own accommodation and travel. You can travel easily both into London from the surrounding area and within in the capital by public transport.

You can secure your place with a deposit and pay £399.67 a month.
