Course content

Trainees come together with Emmaline Fletcher-Sykes, the Subject Leader, for a weekly opportunity to learn more about the subject and the related pedagogy. Physics is a vast and complex subject and most trainees have a detailed knowledge of only one strand. Support to develop all strands is given throughout the year from Emmaline and visiting experts. Trainees support each other, sharing highs and lows, resources and lesson ideas, contributing to sessions and undertaking follow-up tasks.

The course is divided into four modules and their purpose is to introduce, develop, broaden and extend trainees’ knowledge of their subject. Most pathway sessions take place at Pittville School in Cheltenham on a Thursday afternoon. Some sessions are held at other local schools. A visit to the ASE conference extends trainees’ subject knowledge and provides ideas for enriching the teaching of Physics.
