This programme provides students with a flexible high quality approach to postgraduate learning which offers the potential for enhanced career progression within the food industry. For MSc entry, candidates must have a First or Second Class Honours Degree in a suitable science or engineering subject (for example, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering). For Diploma entry, candidates must hold a degree, preferably at Honours level, but lesser qualifications, including substantial relevant work experience, will be considered.

The MSc/PG Diploma programme in Food Science, Safety and Health is tailored to take advantage of the excellent career prospects available in the food industry. This programme provides students with a flexible, high-quality approach to postgraduate learning which offers the potential for enhanced career progression within the food industry. Students undertaking this programme will develop their knowledge and understanding of modern food and beverage science, manufacturing and business.
The programme is closely aligned with the needs of the industry and is accredited by the Institute of Food Science and Technology, UK. Key areas, such as hazard analysis and the legal framework for food production, are fully covered so that graduates are well equipped for careers in both the technical and managerial aspects of food production. The core courses explore fundamental principles and innovative practices so that those undertaking this training can apply their knowledge proficiently to safety, quality and the microbiological issues in the food and beverage manufacturing and related industries.
MSc programmes last for one year (September to August inclusive) and include a substantial research project. The Diploma covers the same classes as the MSc but lasts for just 9 months (September to May inclusive). Students admitted to the Diploma programme and who perform well in the taught courses may be invited to transfer to the MSc programme.
