Course content

The MRes Pastoral Theology is aimed specifically at students who wish to proceed to research at doctoral level. It provides a foundation for further research in Pastoral Theology.

It follows the same course structure as the MA Pastoral Theology with the addition of Research Skills in Theology, a course that enables students to analyse and critically present the main themes in contemporary theological debate and to develop the broad outlines of a research proposal in Pastoral/Practical Theology.

The other modules include: Religion: Context and Crisis, Research Skills in Theology, and optional modules in Mission and Ministry, Modern Theologies of Liturgy, The Bible in the Life of the Church and The Theology of Religious Life.

Information for international students

IELTS (taken within two years of the start of your studies at Heythrop) - 6.5 With no less than 6.5 in each of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Find out more about language requirements and other tests.

The College has established a new Scholarship Fund which is open to postgraduate students starting their studies in September 2014. Scholarships will be awarded to students on the basis of financial need and motivation to study at Heythrop and will be used to reduce the tuition fees charged to students by the College. College scholarships reducing the cost of tuition are also available for qualified teachers, alumni, and applicants with a first class honours degree at undergraduate level.
