Course content

Please note, all course information including entry requirements relates to the 2022/23 academic year.

This multidisciplinary MSc course equips graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the pharmaceutical/cosmeceutical/nutraceutical industry. Whether you are looking to gain new knowledge or upskill, the course has a distinct and integrated science curriculum with a unique business focus that makes your transition into the industry one step closer. The course has 3 exit routes.

The course is designed with the aim of producing a new generation of potential global industry leaders with a broad, solutions-focused knowledge of the applied pharmaceutical sciences and who are able to participate in and manage global product development teams.

This year-long, 180-credit MSc is split into three, equal-credit semesters. The first semester of the course aims to equip you with the necessary business skills and integrate this with the pharmaceutical science knowledge needed in product development and management with two business modules delivered by our Keele Business School. The second semester continues to build on this knowledge but also has more laboratory-based modules to allow you to develop your laboratory skills and demonstrate how well you are able to apply the necessary pharmaceutical knowledge required within each session. The final semester allows you to specialise into an area of your interest with a project that can either be research or audit based, in an appropriate subject relating to pharmaceutical development and business management.

The course has three exit routes as listed below:

  • Master of Science (MSc) in Pharmaceutical Development with Business Management – 180 credits at Level 7 to include the 60 credit Pharmaceutical Development with Business Management project.
  • Postgraduate Diploma (Pg Dip) in Pharmaceutical Development with Business Management - 120 credits at Level 7 to include all taught modules.
  • Postgraduate Certificate (Pg Cert) in Pharmaceutical Development with Business Management – 60 credits at Level 7 to include the module “Product Development and Management”.

You are able to exit the course after the successful completion of Semester 1 with a Postgraduate Certificate or at Semester 2 for a Postgraduate Diploma upon the successful completion of both semesters. If you successfully complete all three semesters, then you will graduate with an MSc in Pharmaceutical Development with Business management.
