For those without a business or management background, our exciting new course offers the chance to up-skill within as little as four months, while business graduates can boost their employability, advance their knowledge and gain a postgraduate qualification. Knowledge of business issues and the wider economy – in other words business or commercial awareness – is a key employability skill and key part of the application process of many organisations, according to PWC Careers 2020. It’s also the number one skill graduates lack.

That’s why our programme has been designed to provide you with an understanding of business and to develop key employability skills to enhance your opportunities in a very competitive graduate recruitment market.

Examining how different businesses operate, not only will you learn to develop and adapt business strategy, but you’ll develop practical transferrable workplace skills with the chance to practise them while working with an employer on a a live consultancy project.

It’s part of Keele Business School’s commitment to support and develop the next generation of enterprising leaders in business and related professions, enabling our graduates to lead with confidence in dynamic, unpredictable, complex and diverse environments. Grounded in theory and practice, our PgCert focuses on developing your understanding of business and management within a global context, better prearing you to support businesses in uncertain times, exactly like those caused by the current worldwide pandemic.

Referring to real-life business examples and latest research, you’ll consider the social, environmental and global implications of how organisations operate; the issues and ethical dilemmas they face in the pursuit of profit and sustainable business. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the strategic and tactical challenges organisations face when confronted with, for example, mergers, acquisitions or a major downturn in market demand.

A core part of the programme is devoted to your self-development, so you’ll examine the personal characteristics, different behaviours and styles of leadership. You’ll also develop key business skills, including leadership, people management, change management and the ability to analyse and interpret financial information.

You’ll graduate with a set of transferrable skills, including leadership, creative problem solving, managing time and resources effectively. You’ll not only be able to demonstrate your commercial awareness by talking confidently about business issues, but also highlight your judgment in knowing which theories, approaches and techniques to use to solve a range of business problems.

On completion, you’ll be better prepared to enter a highly competitive graduate recruitment market or have the opportunity to fast-track onto our Master’s in Management with recognition of your prior learning.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This exciting Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) responds to increasing need for greater awareness of business trends, current affairs, an understanding of business sectors and the various issues that can arise. The curriculum covers core business subjects such as leadership, financial management and business context.

The programme consists of two compulsory modules which focus on leadership and professional skills that are needed in the workplace. For those choosing the full-time route, you can then choose to study either an Accounting, Marketing or International Business module. For those studying part-time, you take either an International Business, Strategy and Information Management, Human Resource Management or Marketing module. Your final module will be a module where you work with an organisation on a live project. This final module is an independent study module, which will give you the chance to act as a consultant to an organisation whilst building your own business skills.

In addition to the formal modules, there will be a range of opportunities to develop your employability skills and to receive support and guidance on preparing for your career. This could be through careers-based workshops, careers guidance or receiving mentoring from our alumni in a range of different professional settings.
