Course content

Marketing as a discipline is predicated on the idea that in order to survive and thrive organisations need to identify and satisfy the needs of their customers. In today’s ever changing and highly competitive world, this is as true as it ever was. A wide variety of knowledge and skills are required to be a successful marketer, covering a full spectrum from analytical to creative.

This MSc aims to equip you with the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques to be able to discover the needs of customers, embed this understanding within an organisation and what it does and subsequently communicate this appropriately to your marketplace. The course also stresses the importance of ethical, responsible behaviour and the context of overall societal issues. The MSc Marketing seeks to develop well-rounded, thoughtful, active, reflective and practical professional marketers with excellent skills.

A distinctive feature of this programme is the opportunity to select a particular pathway for the final 60 credits which best suits your ambitions and development needs. You will get the opportunity to select from a Research Dissertation; a Consultancy Project within an organisation; a 6-12 month Work Placement or a 6-12 month Entrepreneurship Activity.*

*Students who require a Visa to study in the UK may be able to add in a work placement of up to 1 year depending upon the programme. The ability to add a work placement is dependent upon the UK Immigration rules at the time of the request. It may be that for some programmes students will not have the option to request a placement period to be added to their programme before they arrive in the UK and would need to apply for a new Visa. There is no guarantee that a placement will be provided and that students who have a Visa are subject to a number of restrictions on the type of work, including placements they can undertake.

Marketing skills are needed in all types of jobs and industries, from sport & leisure, the arts and entertainment, to social work, engineering and the natural sciences. Because of this, we welcome applicants from a wide range of undergraduate disciplines. We welcome applications from both home and overseas students. We have a range of support services available for all students and further information specifically for international students can be found by clicking on the International Applications Information link above.
