Course content

Our History MRes programme gives you the opportunity to undertake advanced historical research and appropriate research training, tailored to your particular focus.

At the heart of the programme is your research and dissertation project – an in-depth examination of a topic of your choice leading to a 30,000-word dissertation. In developing your research and dissertation you will benefit from a series of intensive one-to-one supervisions with tutors who are experts in your chosen field of research.

Through our taught training modules, you will engage with disciplinary and methodological debates at an advanced level, and develop the skills you will need to write your dissertation. These modules, combined with the dissertation, will teach you how to conduct large-scale independent research projects; the programme is excellent preparation for doctoral study.
