Bachelor's degree with first class honours (or international equivalent) in any relevant discipline including mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, biophysics, geophysical sciences and computer science. Note: A 2:1 (upper second class) honours degree (or international equivalent) may be acceptable depending on the candidate's academic background. A strong background in quantitative science will be essential for students to take full advantage of the CANES training programme.
Months of entry
10 fully-funded 1 Year MSc + 3-year PhD studentships at King's College London in the CANES Centre for Doctoral Training. The mission of the Centre is to train a new generation of researchers in Cross-disciplinary Approaches to Non-Equilibrium Systems, focusing on the three key strands of theoretical modelling, simulation and data-driven analysis. It draws on a broad range of supervisor expertise in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, Computational and Systems Biomedicine, Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Research grants: King’s College London hosts an EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Cross-Disciplinary Approaches to Non-Equilibrium Systems (CANES), a field that underpins many challenging problems across the natural sciences. CDTs provide a supportive and exciting cohort-based training environment for students. As well as completing an MSc and PhD, students will be fully funded for 4 years and receive technical and transferable skills training.

Current number of students: 10 studentships annually
Research projects: All CANES PhD projects will involve two (or three) CANES members as supervisors using different methods in the same area, or related methods but in different disciplines. This will make sure the cross-disciplinary vision of CANES is at the heart of all projects. All students will be registered at King's College London and need to have at least one supervisor here.
