Entry requirements

A BA(Hons) degree (or equivalent) in arts, design or have professional experience in the creative industries.

All candidates will be offered an interview, at the campus or via Skype. This is a two way conversation about the course contents, and the experience and ambitions of the candidate.

This course builds on Kingston School of Art's international reputation for excellence in creative arts and design. Its purpose is to help creative practitioners develop the skills and knowledge required to operate as a project manager within creative projects.

Creative careers are varied, full of change and frequently project based. Developing the skills to lead and design projects is therefore a huge advantage to art and design graduates and can provide a boost for mid-career creative practitioners seeking to develop their commercial and operational skills and understanding but needing to contextiualise their learning within the collaborative character of creative projects.

In addition to the award of an MSc Project Management, students will study for the internationally accredited AgilePM Practitioner certificate, which is accredited by the Agile Project Management Group. This widely recognised certification will further enhance the career prospects of the courses graduates. This degree is taught in the Department of Creative and Cultural Industries, part of Kingston School of Art.

What will you study

The course is multi-disciplinary insofar as the student body comprises creative professionals and practitioners from across the art and design economy. Project management will be taught through tailored provision of content with an emphasis on:

  • creative responses to working in differently scaled organisations;
  • negotiating with non-creatives, building and executing strategies for funding and marketing, creating business strategies in a cultural economy;
  • team building;
  • resource management;
  • risk assessment;
  • professional writing; and
  • developing a pragmatic understanding of the political, social and economic relationships between public, private, commercial and philanthropic organisations.

Information for international students

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirement, which is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no element below 5.5. Make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements could be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from a recognised majority English speaking countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
