About Koc University

Koç University

Koc university

Koç University was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul, Turkey. Since its establishment, Koç University has become one of the leading universities in Turkey and the region. Its beautiful campus sprawls over a sixty-two acre estate that succeeds in balancing accessibility to all Istanbul with retreat from the distractions of city life.

The university offers over fifty Master and Doctoral programmes in English on a full-time delivery format and welcomes talented international students with full scholarships for most of its programmes.

Worldwide reputation

Today, Koç University is ranked number eight in the world's best small universities and number 36 in the world’s best universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education. This is mainly thanks to the scale and international impact of research conducted at the university, its small class sizes and entrepreneurial drive.

All our faculty members have received their PhD degrees from the top universities in the world and worked as faculty members in leading American and European universities before coming to Koc University.

The Koç campus is really beautiful because it’s on the peak of a mountain and surrounded by the forest. The professors at Koç University are really helpful and they have this open door policy that’s true no matter what questions we have.

I work with Ziya Oniş, he is my advisor for my PhD research and considering that he is a very well-known figure in this field which I work which is political economy, it’s been really great and it is just very important to have professors around you that specialise on this geography that you want to study.
Apart from research facilities at Koç are really good. For one, the food court is really good because they offer lot of vegetarian choices which is important because I’m vegetarian!.

I love Istanbul that’s why I’m here. I love to go into the city and go to art gallery openings and exhibitions and meet up with friends and when people come to visit I like to take them around and show them places.

Only a few weeks ago I was studying and eight o’clock rolled around and there was a ballet that was coming and so I just put aside my book and went upstairs and went into the auditorium and watched the ballet so that was great. I really appreciate those.
