Course content

We warmly welcome enquiries from appropriately qualified applicants who are keen to register for doctoral research in any of the areas covered by our staff expertise in Translation and related areas.

Whilst the programme is predominantly research based, students are supported with access to a selection of taught courses providing skills in many areas of research, including the core module, ‘Research Skills for Modern Linguists’. This provision ensures that our postgraduate students extend their knowledge beyond the focus of their thesis, and possess a wide range of skills to aid employability.

PhD students in the Department of Languages and Cultures are supported by two supervisors and are fully integrated into the research culture of the Department. They are expected to attend and present their work at postgraduate research seminars, and have representation on relevant departmental committees.
