Applicants require a First degree at 2.2 or above and A level in Mathematics (or equivalent).
Applicants must also be in receipt of an offer of a place on a teacher training course conditional upon successful completion of MEC. Specifically, applicants must have met all other criteria for entry to initial teacher training.
Months of entry
The Mathematics Enhancement course will provide you with opportunities to explore pure and applied mathematics at advanced level and university level. When tackling new mathematics, you will be challenged to not just ask yourself what? or how? but also why? Two short school placements will help you further develop this ‘deep’ understanding. You will also be introduced to a range of ICT software packages which have revolutionised the teaching of mathematics.
Team support is a key feature of the course. The course begins with a residential induction in North Wales which provides students and tutors with the opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed setting.
Fees and funding
This course is fully funded by the NCTL and no additional top-up fees will be charged (please check eligibility). In addition, most students will receive a bursary from Liverpool Hope University, paid on behalf of the National College for Teaching & Leadership (NCTL) for all 24 weeks of the MEC.
