Course content

This MSc in Sensor Technologies and Enterprise is delivered collaboratively by world-leading experts from Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool, and is closely linked with the “Sensor City” University Enterprise Zone.

  • Be inspired by world-leading academics from LJMU and the University of Liverpool
  • Enjoy a unique combination of sensor technology and enterprise
  • Gain the expertise to develop new concepts in this exciting area
  • Benefit from a two year course enabling idea creation, maturation and incubation in the Sensor City framework
  • Interact with University research programmes, industrial networks and professional bodies
You will have access to specialist facilities at LJMU and the University of Liverpool, including research laboratories dedicated to the development of sensor technologies.
You will gain hands-on experience of a range of sensors, from off-the-shelf devices to those for industrial applications which are currently under development at the University.
To complement the engineering and technology aspects of the programme, experts from the University of Liverpool Mangement School, as well LJMU's Centre for Entrepreneurship, will deliver a series of lectures, seminars and boot camps to help instil the necessary business, financial and product development skills to make your ideas commercially successful.
While the first year of the programme focuses on building knowledge, you will also be encouraged to develop an idea from the very start of the programme. You will then take this idea forward in the second year of the programme to undertake a significant work-based research project.
This project will be assessed not only on its technical excellence, but also on the business case and commercial viability, i.e. how would you make the idea a sustainable success? The project therefore brings together sensor technology and enterprise knowledge, enabling you to apply your learning while being guided by experts within the Universities.
