Course content

We are a leading centre for research in London for nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, public health and social care. 80% of our research into Allied Health Professions and Nursing was awarded the highest quality ratings of 4* or 3* for 'impact' (reach and significance) - Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.

A member of staff, expert in the chosen field, is directly responsible for guiding and supporting your research programme. As a research student you'll become part of our thriving academic community.

A PhD, by definition, is an original contribution to knowledge. A research degree is different from a taught course. Research students are expected to self-direct their learning with support from a supervisory team.

The School of Health and Social Care runs a monthly doctoral support programme where you can meet students at different points in their doctoral studies and benefit from peer support and sessions to support your learning. There are also development sessions organised by the Central Research Office for LSBU’s research students and a lively annual Summer School.
