Entry requirements

One of the features of the course is the diversity of the student cohort. You may be working in any sector (private, public or not-for-profit) or industry (government, finance, consultancy, private industry, high-tech, retail, hospitality) and organisations of any size (from SME’s to multi-national companies). We welcome students from a variety of background or academic discipline. Academic entry requirements include an undergraduate degree (minimum 2.2) in any subject.

It is anticipated that you will have two year’s work experience, mostly likely within a HR or people management field. We will also consider applicants who are working in a management role outside of HR.

If you lack the required academic qualifications but meet the work experience requirements above you are also eligible to apply as part of the application process you will be asked to complete a written assessment based on a work-related HR issue which will be assessed by the Course Admissions team.

Course content

The MSc HRM aims to develop the professional capability of human resource management practitioners through developing a range of skills, knowledge and understanding in Leadership and HR Management, including:

  • people management and development,
  • business understanding,
  • professional and ethical behaviour,
  • analytical and intuitive/creative thinking
  • continuing learning and development

You can choose to complete the full Masters qualification or alternatively you can choose to study the Postgraduate Diploma in HRM instead. Both courses are approved by the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) and meet the CIPD Advanced Standards. This means on successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc you will become a fully qualified Level 7, Associate member of the CIPD. In addition both programmes provides you with the knowledge to upgrade to either Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow levels of professional membership, providing you meet the respective criteria as set by the CIPD.
