Course content

The MSc Sustainable Design and Construction programme is uniquely dedicated to developing construction managers’ knowledge and expertise in sustainable construction.

Managing construction has become inexorably intertwined with sustainability. The requirement for construction managers to have expertise in environmental engineering, building physics, sustainable design, and commissioning and testing of sustainable buildings is fundamental to practical decision making and professional judgements. This programme provides the opportunity to develop such expertise within a School ranked 1st in the UK for Built Environment in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014) and 1st in the UK for Building in The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

Our Sustainable Design and Construction MSc programme integrates contemporary construction management theory and practice with fundamental and interrelated sustainable design theory and practice. Emphasising the practical application of sustainability within the programme provides students with hands-on experience and knowledge to deepen expertise for application within the public or private sector. Indeed, if students decide to study this programme then it will provide you with the additional opportunity to gain Building Research Energy Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) qualification.
