The Department of Chemistry offers popular and industry-relevant opportunities, enabling students to develop multidisciplinary skills. Access to our facilities, including a full range of analytical and spectroscopic instrumentation, a worldclass mass spectrometry suite, single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, laser spectroscopy and a dedicated bio-lab will allow you to gain experience of the latest techniques.
The Department of Computer Science is a lively community within a stimulating learning and working environment. We regularly welcome visiting lecturers and researchers who contribute to the intellectual and social life of the Department, and our facilities offer the best all-round experience for learning, enhancing employability and expanding skills.
Our Mathematics Department has a long history of innovation in teaching, and we have a firm research base with strengths in both pure and applied mathematics. The programmes on offer reflect our strengths, and in some cases represent established collaborative training ventures with industrial partners.
Mathematics Education Centre
One of the largest groups of mathematics education researchers in the UK, Loughborough’s Mathematics Education Centre has an international reputation for research and practice in teaching and learning mathematics. 85% of its research rated was 'internationally recognised' or higher in the REF 2014. The teacher training course at Loughborough has been judged on three occasions to be an ‘outstanding’ course by Ofsted and has had excellent reports from External Examiners.
Our Physics programmes and research opportunities are delivered by recognised experts, and enable you to acquire specialist knowledge of topics at the cutting edge of contemporary physics. Our research is focused on condensed matter and quantum physics. Our aim is to equip students with key skills they need for employment in industry, public service or academic research.
