TOur Sport and Exercise Nutrition MSc provides you with an opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of the nutritional and metabolic demands of exercise, of the interactions between diet, exercise and health and how nutrition influences performance in sport.
Nutrition is increasingly recognised as being a key component in the optimisation of sport and exercise performance, with both the science and practice of sports nutrition developing rapidly. At Loughborough University you will benefit from studying at one of the UK's leading centres for elite sport, coaching and sport science research.
You will complete modules that cover the fundamental nutritional, physiological and metabolic principals underpinning sport and exercise nutrition practice, as well as modules where you put these principals into practice and a research project examining a novel research question within sport and exercise nutrition.
Our high-quality research-led teaching will strengthen your learning experience and you will receive the latest evidence-based information from our subject experts. Examples of the type of research themes currently being studied by staff are as follows:
- The impact of diet and exercise on metabolic health, appetite regulation and energy balance.
- Effects of dietary supplements on exercise performance and cardiovascular health.
- Nutritional requirements (e.g. water, carbohydrate and protein) to optimise exercise performance and post-exercise recovery.
Our campus is home to a number of high performance sport organisations, and although limited in availability, there are opportunities that you can pursue to undertake applied placements within some of these organisations. These opportunities vary on a yearly basis and do not constitute a formal component of the course. Placement opportunities can be very competitive and are undertaken alongside your studies.
