About School of the Arts, English and Drama

Our School of Arts, English and Drama offers a range of research opportunities and master’s degree programmes designed to inspire talented students with the drive and determination to succeed.

Our breadth of research opportunities encompasses art, design, history, theatre, theory, performance, publishing, post-medieval literature, linguistics studies, and creative writing, including theatre, fiction and poetry.

We provide tailored support to meet the different requirements of our individual programmes.

Our art and design students can make full use of state-of-the art facilities, and explore a range of creative possibilities. We’re proud of the industry standard output of our students, and their professional approach to the industry.

Creative Writing students are provided with dedicated information and advice concerning building their career and profile as a writer. Students are encouraged to explore a range of genres and are exposed to different professional writers throughout the programme.

Students on our English programme enjoy a wide array of different research methodologies and approaches, which are employed by the School. This ranges from archival research to new digital approaches.

As a department, our students are provided with different, exciting ways to enhance their skills. This includes research-led teaching, and opportunities to work alongside, recognised international scholars. Students also have access to multi-million pound facilities, input from our industry links, and superb careers guidance and advice, including specific support for students with entrepreneurial ambitions.
