Course content

Develop the design mindset and skills to instill positive change in and across organisations on our MA / MSc Design Innovation, based in Loughborough London’s dynamic campus on the former Olympic Park.

Across sectors, there’s a growing awareness of the value of design and innovation. Not just for operational efficiency but to help organisations address pressing environmental and socio-cultural challenges. It means there’s high demand for specialists with a creative and strategic design mindset, combined with robust collaboration skills.

On this master’s, you’ll explore key topics like design in organisations, design thinking, service design strategy and design research. Build your understanding of how organisations use design to drive change internally and across their ecosystems. You’ll also examine how design and innovation practices apply to current issues and debates in areas like sustainability, inclusivity and digitalisation.

If you want to nurture macro-level design thinking for a career with vast potential for positive impact, this course is for you.

Develop a specialist approach and skillset

On every module, you’ll learn by analysing and evaluating current design practices, issues and debates, and examine real-world challenges and case studies. Designed to nurture a critical and conceptual mindset, you’ll also hone vital skills like communication, ideation and futures thinking.

Design innovation is a highly collaborative field, and you’ll stretch that skill in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary project work. Learn from leading academics, influential thought leaders and creative innovators, with guest lectures from partners like Snook, Design Thinkers Academy, Citizens UK, Doughnut Economics Action Lab and many others.

Based in London, the UK’s innovation hub, you’ll be in the ideal location for building your network and finding the right industry partner for your collaborative project and dissertation.

A springboard into a career with impact

The design innovation field is growing and evolving rapidly. By the end of your course, you’ll have the mindset and skills needed for roles in design leadership, innovation management, design strategy and new service development.

It’s relevant to organisations across all sectors, so you’ll be well placed to make an impact in any area that interests you. With a strong creative and strategic approach, you could use it to support your own venture or go on to PhD level study.
