Course content

Trainees will gain a PGCE qts in General Primary as part of an Early Years specialist route. This is affiliated by Haybridge SCITT and Birmingham City University.

The training course will include teaching experience, course modules and ongoing school based tasks.

The modules include topics such as behaviour management, lesson planning, differentiation, assessment for learning, engaging learners, special educational needs, assessment, curriculum and new technologies. School based tasks all align with these modules.

All modules and tasks will allow the student to meet the classroom teaching standards, if successful by the end of 2018, for students to achieve their PGCE.

Each module consists of learning workshops, research and development tasks, modelling, mentoring, assessment and reflection.

There will be lesson observations of the students each week and weekly reviews with their class teacher. There will also be end of placement reports to ensure that the student is making the necessary progress.

Trainees will need to keep a school experience file and PPD file which are working documents to show evidence of the trainee's ability to plan, evaluate, assess and record both their own and children's progress.

Each student will have their own training action plan which will be written alongside their mentor to meet their individual teaching needs.
