Candidates will normally have a good first degree or a postgraduate management qualification. Exceptionally, applicants may apply for exemption from the MRes programme which can be granted on production of evidence of completion of an appropriate research training programme. These applicants must submit their research proposal with their application.
Months of entry
A PhD is normally completed in 4 years full-time and 7 years part-time. MPhil studies are normally completed in 3 years full-time and 5 years part-time. You will initially enter the MRes programme to receive research training which is recognised by the European Social and Research Council (ESRC). In order to progress to the next stage you are required to successfully complete the MRes training programme within your first year (full-time) or two years (part-time). Progression is dependent upon the support of your Director of Studies and the approval of the Faculty Research Degrees Sub-committee.

Information for international students
Applications are welcomed from overseas students. The doctoral programme is of 4 years duration (full-time) including the Master of Research which provides intensive research methodology training. Applicants whose first degree was not taught in English are required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency: IELTS Minimum score 7.0.
Fees and funding
ESRC, MMU and Research Institute of Business and Management research studentships. These are normally advertised on the MMUBS Research/RIBM website in March or April.
