Entry requirements

Canditates must have successfully completed a Master in Nursing/ Midwifery or its equivalent; Be a registered nurse/ midwife on Register maintained on An Bord Altranais, or be eligible for such registration; Have practiced as a nurse/ midwife of minimum of three years post registration (exclusive of post-registration/ educational programmes); Have negotiated a placement in Department/ Centre of Nurse/ Midwifery Education, which will provide them with the opportunity to meet the practice requirements of this programme.

Course content

The Programme is aimed at Masters prepared graduates who wish to gain a teaching qualification. It aims to develop nurses/ midwifers expertise and understanding of teaching in higher education and clinical settings. The programme is comprised of four taught modules, two refelctive practice assignments, and three competency assessments. To support students skill devlopment they are expected to complete 100 hours of teaching/ facilitaion during the programme. Students are also expected to gain expertise in a wide range of teaching methods including lecturing, clinical teaching in both laboratory and clinical settings, and working with small groups using experiental approaches.
