Entry requirements

Candidates must be a registered general nurse on the live Register maintained by An Bord Altranais; Have a minimum of at least two years experience in general nursing; Have a minimum of at least six months experience in practice nursing. They must be currently working as a Practice Nurse or in a role deemed equivalent by the course team. All applicants will be required to have a letter of support from the Principal General Practitioner of the practice, or equivalent line manager as deemed appropriate by the course committee.

Course content

This programme is designed for practice nurses who are working in a General Practice setting. It aims to develop practice nurses expertise and understanding of primary care, family centred care, chronic disease management and clincial nursing skills related to chronic illness management. Students continue to work in their own practice setting while undertaking the programme, and are required to complete clinical practice hours over the duration of the programme.
