Entry requirements

Academic Requirements

Applicants must have obtained at least an undergraduate degree in any discipline.

OR

Be a mature student aged at least 20 years and supply evidence of at least three (3) years relevant work experience. Each mature applicant must provide their curriculum vitae detailing any relevant work experience and academic achievements. The Programme Manager will use this information to assess whether the applicant is likely to successfully complete the Graduate Diploma programme.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English must have:

  • An International English Language Testing System (IELTs) overall academic score of at least 6.0 (with at least 5.5 in each band), issued within the last two years or equivalent.

If you do not have an IELTS test score, you may send us other evidence of your English language level.

Course content

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is to give people who already have a degree or extensive business experience an opportunity to extend their knowledge into another specialised field without having to complete another degree.

This programme is ideal for you if you are seeking promotion in your existing employment, wish to widen your skill and knowledge base and keep ahead in the knowledge game or if you are considering a career change, including self-employment.

When you graduate with this qualification you will be able to understand and process accounting information in a range of business environments. You will be able to apply conceptual and technical skills to assess cost determination and control in manufacturing and services industries. You will be able to prepare a full set of financial statements in accordance with general accepted accounting practices in New Zealand and to collect, critically review and communicate information effectively in both written and oral form to a wide variety of audiences, including other accounting experts.
