Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a science discipline or an MBBS/BDS degree with high grades. Practical laboratory work experience is desirable, but not essential.

Course content

Our Biosciences MRes is a research-based course with a taught component that is equivalent to an MSc. It provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research.

Biosciences is a competitive research area in academia and industry. Your studies with us will reflect our international competitive edge in this area.

This course is for science graduates with an interest in life sciences. It is also suitable for intercalating or qualified MBBS or BDS students. You can study it as a stand-alone qualification or as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.

The taught component includes subject-specific content in the area of biosciences. You have the flexibility to select complementary modules and develop a bespoke course. You will also receive training in general research principles and professional and key skills.

Your research project is the major element of the course. Your project involves 24 weeks of research in an area of biosciences. Supervision is by expert academic researchers in your field of interest.

Information for international students

For this course you need to meet the following English Language requirements: Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.5 in all other sub-skills). Pre-sessional English Language courses are not accepted as an alternative entry to this course. You may need an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) certificate.
