A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in:
- a life science or related discipline
- or an MBBS/BDS degree
This programme accepts both medical and dental students wishing to take a master's degree as an intercalation. You will need to have successfully completed your third or fourth year of study.
Practical laboratory work experience is desirable, although not essential. The modules you can study may depend on your academic background.
Months of entry
The Centre for Integrated research into Musculoskeletal Ageing (CIMA) MRes is a research-based course with a taught component. It provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research.
The course is designed for students with a BSc in the life sciences or another science discipline. It is also for intercalating and qualified MBBS or BDS students. You can study the course as a stand-alone qualification or as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.
What you'll learn
The taught component of the course includes musculoskeletal ageing specific content. This content is delivered as a series of e-learning modules provided by Newcastle University and also the CIMA partner universities of Liverpool and Sheffield. You will also receive training in general research principles and in professional and key skills.

Information for international students
Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.5 in all other sub-skills). Pre-sessional English Language courses are not accepted as an alternative entry to this course. You may need an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate.
